Application Deadline: 11:59 PM ET, February 9, 2026

The Association for Pathology Informatics (API) recognizes the significant challenges faced by international medical professionals seeking advanced training in pathology informatics. Many talented pathologists lack access to local expertise, financial resources, and logistical opportunities required to obtain cutting-edge informatics education, particularly when such opportunities are primarily U.S.-based and associated with substantial costs beyond travel and registration.

In response to this gap, API is pleased to announce the Global Access Travel Award, designed to support international pathologists from low-resource countries in accessing high-quality pathology informatics education and professional engagement opportunities.

Objectives of the Award

  • Share advanced knowledge of pathology informatics in the United States with pathologists practicing outside the U.S.
  • Provide financial resources to assist with travel and accommodation expenses
  • Expand API’s international engagement and support in the field of pathology informatics
  • Identify and support emerging informatics leaders worldwide
  • Build lasting relationships with pathologists from other countries

About the Award

The Global Access Travel Award will provide a travel stipend for a pathologist from a low-resource country to attend the API Informatics Summit 2026, held at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot. The award is intended to offset the costs of attending the Informatics Summit and to facilitate increased participation of international pathologists in the pathology informatics community.

Financial Support

  • Total travel award: Up to $2,500
  • API Informatics Summit 2026 registration fee: $950 (waived)
  • API may assist with airfare and hotel reservations; any remaining funds will be disbursed following completion of travel, in accordance with API reimbursement policies
  • Visa: Applicants are responsible for securing the appropriate visa (e.g., B1/B2). API will provide a formal invitation letter to support the visa application process.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Pathology medical professionals practicing outside the United States
  • Residents of low-resource countries, as defined by the World Bank country classification for the current year
  • Individuals in the early stages of developing a career in pathology informatics

All applicants will be considered regardless of age, race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or religion.

Application Guidelines

  1. Career goals and interest in pathology informatics and information management
  2. Understanding of the importance of informatics management as it relates to pathology or bioinformatics
  3. Explanation of why financial support is necessary to attend the Pathology Informatics Summit 2026
  • A supporting letter from the applicant’s department chair, dean, or employer is highly recommended but not required. The letter may describe the applicant’s qualifications, professional status, anticipated use of the knowledge gained, and the importance of attending the conference.
  • A copy of the applicant’s passport or other valid government-issued identification
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to the API Informatics Summit 2026. Submission of an abstract will be viewed favorably during the selection process. Abstracts should present research findings related to pathology informatics and must adhere to all conference submission and formatting guidelines.
