2009 API Lifetime Achievement Award

Michael D. McNeely, MD (deceased)

 

Michael McNeely, MD graduated from the University of Manitoba, Medicine in 1969 and completed his fellowship in Medical Biochemistry in Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. McNeely was a Medical Biochemist at Island Medical Laboratories and later at MDS Metro (now LifeLabs). He is a pioneer in the field of Medical Informatics and a leader in information systems development to support laboratory medicine. Dr. McNeely is not only dedicated to advancing technology solutions in lab medicine across Canada, he also works to bring forth lab information systems into developing countries by lending his expertise to Pathologists Overseas, Inc. 

Dr. McNeely has produced numerous publications on lab computer automation, artificial intelligence and decision support, data mining and chronic disease management. He has written numerous articles, policies, and book chapters, including one on applications of microcomputers in the lab environment. 

Dr. McNeely was president for the Association of Pathology Informatics in 2008 and developed a library of internet-based learning tools for the American Society of Clinical pathologists. In recognition for his dedication to and achievements in the field, API is proud to award him its 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award.
