Pathology Informatics 2010 and Beyond
The new "Pathology Informatics" annual meeting represents a merger of two long-running informatics meetings into a single, cohesive conference:
- Lab InfoTech Summit (LITS, formerly AIMCL): 1983 - 2009
- Advancing Practice, Instruction & Innovation through Informatics (APIII): 1996 - 2009
This API-sponsored conference is designed to meet the needs of physicians including residents and fellows, researchers, and graduate students. The conference is aimed at all informatics knowledge levels with introductory courses offered on the first day of the conference for individuals new to the field. API members receive discount registration to this conference.
The first Pathology Informatics conference was held in Boston, September 19 - 22, 2010. The dates for the 2011 conference are now set. Details of the 2012 conference are being worked out. The 2012 and subsequent conferences will likely be held earlier in the year to avoid conflicts with other pathology and medical informatics conferences.

The Pathology Informatics Conferences will mirror and expand upon the themes of the LITS and APIII conferences, following three general tracks (1) Applied Informatics; (2) Advanced and Experimental Informatics; and (3) Pathology Imaging Informatics.
Planning for the 2011 and 2012 meetings has taken place concurrently with planning for Pathology Informatics 2010. The Planning Committee includes Dr. Bruce Friedman, Dr. Ul Balis, Dr. Michael Becich, and Dr. John Gilbertson along with APIII and API staff at the Department of Biomedical Informatics University of Pittsburgh including Charles Dizard, Barbara Karnbauer, Nova Smith, and others.
